A gentle day with a little plying and spinning rolags. As a new spinner, colour management and plying are new to me. Today, I plied the Pays de Galles from Hilltop Cloud and to be honest I’m disappointed with the result and that I haven’t done justice to the fibre. The finished skein has the characteristics of a ‘muddy’ yarn; the pops of colour and in particular the turquoise blue have become overwhelmed. However, the muted colours will work well with some other handspun and will eventually be made into a shawl.
I spun some hastily made rolags, a blend of Jacob in natural white and grey and some throwsters silk. My rolag making technique is still sketchy and the resulting yarn very inconsistent. However the single will give some perfect texture to a future Weaving the Landscape piece.
Never give up learning. . .
